Party Like It's 1994: The planets are aligning once again. The Rangers are going to the NHL Playoffs with the Devils and Islanders. I'm getting chills ...

Congratulations to the New York Islanders for grabbing that final playoff spot. Your reward? Getting run over by the freight train called the Buffalo Sabers.

Yeah, well that's why the play the games. Wasn't Edmonton supposed to get rolled over by the Wing juggernaut in the first round last year? Besides, everybody knows that the damn Debs are going to win it all this year anyway. Stupid Brodeur. Stupid Fritsy. I'm just really pissed that the Canes didn't make the playoffs 'cause I was looking forward to seeing them beat the Debs again. HARUMPH!!

My thinking is Ottawa makes it out of the East for the sheer reason that, for once, no one is talking about them. I think it's going to be a Buffalo/Ottawa conference final (because the Rangers are going to beat the Thrashers and therefore Ottawa beats Pittsburgh and then plays Brodeur in the second round). Then I think the West is way more of a crapshoot - and I'm calling the huge upset - Calgary over Detroit. But I can't find one team in the West that I think is as strong as a Buffalo/Ottawa/NJ. So it could be bonkers and someone like Dallas comes through. But this is more of a locker room discussion, no? We need to be making predictions, stat.

Before the start of the season, I wasn't a fan of three things: the shootout, Raycroft, and Ferguson. The last few days didn't assuage me one bit. Wasn't Edmonton supposed to get rolled over by the Wing juggernaut in the first round last year? No. Quite a few people picked Edmonton to win. Not by virtue of Edmonton being so good, but mainly because of Detroit's recent playoff woes. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Flames knock them out of the first round. Huge upset my ass. No one is safe in the West. (And if we're partying like it's 1994, does that mean that Vancouver is making the finals and shall we start early on overturning cars?)

My thinking is Ottawa makes it out of the East for the sheer reason that, for once, no one is talking about them. Ottawa cannot win the Stanley Cup unless they defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs in the playoffs. It is their curse, and they have to solve it before winning the big prize. The Red Sox did it by beating the Yankees. The Colts did it by beating the Patriots. Unfortunately for the Senators, they'll have to wait until next year. At least.

This is why I'm glad baseball's here.

Wasn't Edmonton supposed to get rolled over by the Wing juggernaut... That was because of the Curse of the Presidents Trophy, NoMich.
Oh and Weedy, curse you and the Flames!

Well, look who won the President's Trophy this year. Look at the bright side, NoMich. You won't need to take out a second mortgage to buy playoff tickets. True dat. I'm still feeling it from last year's playoffs. "If the devil danced in empty pockets He'd have a ball in mine With a nine-foot grand, a ten-piece band And a twelve-girl chorus line"
