With their victory last night, the 3rd game of a 3 game sweep,: the New York Mets now hold a lead in their lifetime series (since 1962) against the Chicago Cubs. This is the first time since 1962 that my Mets have held such a lead against any other team. I cannot find any proof this on-line, I just feel it in my bones.

Assignment to Spo-fi readers (all 5 of you): find proof on-line.

The Mets have a winning lifetime record against around 10 teams.

From rcade's link: "The Mets' all-time regular season winning percentage is .476." Ouch.

Kirk, I would have liked it so much better if that winning percentage was .420... (Oh wait, this belongs in the other discussion.) The real question should be what this says, not about my formerly beloved Mets, but about the woeful Cubs.

Right - but all those +500 teams are either Interleague or expansion teams, which don't count - since they missed playing against the woeful 62-67 Mets. I should have said what I meant. All the same, well done rcade. You win ... my tickets to tonights Mets game! Come pick them up around 5:30 in Park Slope. (Of course beating up on the Red Sox is a New York tradition.)

The Mets have been playing the Expos for 34 years. I think you have to give them a little credit for thoroughly dominating such a storied franchise, establishing a 10-game lead. As for the prize, what's second place -- two pairs of tickets to tonight's Mets game?

second place - tickets to the Tuesday game against the Cubs, which I didn't use (i had plans to go, but came down sick). Jeromy Burnitz won in the bottom of the 9th with a home run!

There's a lot more than 5 of us, now 5 of us that care about the Mets might be a stretch...
