Marvelous Joe: Three time Stanley Cup winner and Olympic gold medalist, Joe Nieuwendyk retires. There are countless memories, but absolutely no regrets.
I always thought Joe looked good wearing red, black, and white. As far as I know his back problems first started in OT of game 6 of the 2003 Eastern Conference Finals. He was checked in the corner and couldn't get back up. He was unable to play in that historical game 7 but he was the inspiration. To quote Jamie Langenbrunner paraphrasing Pat Burns,"You've got a guy that's played 17 years in the NHL with a couple of Stanley Cups and a Conn Smyth trophy, and he's in there bawling his eyes out because he can't be out there helping you guys out." He always seemed liked a guy with good character to me. He's got my vote for the HHOF. I second gspm's emotion, thanks for the memories Joe!

He's a HoFer. Second tier, maybe, thanks to injuries - but hard to argue with his numbers and impact. A tremendous competitor.

Yes, a tremendous competitor, almost in the same class as Messier. Am I the only one to find the following phrase weird? en route to the second of three Cups that would bear his name

en route to the second of three Cups that would bear his name I always write my name on my cups. Don't want to be wearing someone else's. Bing Bong!

20 year career! I feel old. I remember when he came up with the Flames and was one of the top scoring rookies ever. That was exciting stuff. And the the Flames traded him to Dallas for Iginla. So, doubly, thanks for the memories, Joe!
