As one Lion falls: another Lion ascends. The same day the Detroit Lions become possibly the worst NFL team, the British Columbia Lions capture the 94th Grey Cup 25-14

The next logical step is the annual Lion Bowl: Detroit vs B.C. Who's with me? The game had its moments, but it didn't quite compare to either of that past two Grey Cups.

How bout them Cowboys.

DrJohn, that would be pretty cool. They could alternate rules depending on which was the home team. I vaguely recalling reading about that sort of exhibition occurring, but I can't remember if it was at the high school, college, or pro level. I'm pretty sure it was the high school level near the border. What about them Cowboys? I thought Detroit lost to the Arizona Cardinals. And BC beat the Montreal Alouettes.

Those who watched the game: Were the two safeties BC took intentional? What were the circumstances? Are safeties more common in the CFL because of the rules/bigger end zone?

As a good Canadian boy, I can't answer that question... I was watching the Colts/Cowboys game. I'll turn in my touque, now.

The next logical step is the annual Lion Bowl: Detroit vs B.C. Who's with me? Is it really necessary to subject Lions fans to more pain and suffering? Of course, it would be a really fun game to watch.

Yes, the safeties were "intentional". The punter conceded the safety when kicking from deep in his own endzone. Yeah, I do think that they're more common in the CFL and the rules/size of field definitely play a factor. I'd say that the "no yards" rule instead of the American "fair catch" is probably the biggest motivator ... because despite a team's best efforts to cover a punt to midfield, there is an almost-guarantee of some return or as many as 15 penalty yards for a no yards infraction. Personally, I'm not a fan of conceded safeties, especially as frequent as they have seemed to become this season.

Does anyone know of a good site that explains the no yards rule? I find myself slightly lost.

Here you go, YYM. Article 1b:

When on a kick from scrimmage (ball crosses line of scrimmage), or on an open field kick, a player is "offside" in relation to the kicker; such player [...] b. shall allow five yards to an opponent attempting to gain possession of the kicked ball. The five yard zone is determined by a circle of radius five yards, with the centre point being the ball at the instant it is first touched by an opponent.
  • Penalty: (1) In field of play - scrimmage by receiving team 15 yards in advance of the point where the ball was first touched, OR 5 yards in advance of that point if the kicked ball had struck the ground before being touched by the receiving team.
  • (2) In goal area - scrimmage by receiving team after penalty applied from the ten yard line.
The rules were changed last off-season—Penalty (1) used to be five yards, with an extra fifteen added on if the ref judged that there was intent to injure. Now it's an automatic fifteen, which I think is a little gratuitous, and ends up getting called far too often, negating a lot of great punts.

How long must Detroit fans suffer? Its been 50years since the Lions won a championship. Is it going to be 50 more? Probably,as long as a Ford owns the team.

Maybe the Lions are sleeping.

That's why Detroit Lions should also root for the British Columbia Lions. This way we won at least one league. And you don't evne have to learn a new chant! "Fire Millen!" Oh wait, that won't work. "Go Lions!"

And you don't evne have to learn a new chant! "Fire Millen!" Oh wait, that won't work. Forward down the field, A charging team that will not yield. And when the Blue Orange, Black, and Silver wave, Stand and cheer the brave. Rah, Rah, Rah. Go hard, win the game. With honor you will keep your fame. Down the field and gain, A Lion victory! With a little editing this one should work fine.
