NHL 2006-2007 Power Ranking Madness Oct. 2006: Skydivedad's Early Season Power Rankings.
While I think the Sens are better than their ranking, they sure aren't playing like it.

My blujackets ranking number 22 suprises me. They obviously have to improve their play alot to deserve it

Good analysis, for sure. Can't say I disagree in any meaningful way. Though, I would expect that a month from now, a lot of those bottom feeders will be well on their way up the ladder. Ottawa kept it reasonably simple yesterday and showed what kind of firepower they pack (also - that's the second game I've seen this year featuring a slow and remarkably normal Martin Brodeur). Philly, though - that team is super sucking. Anyway - as I say every time I have the urge to dump my entire roster in the pool on a twice-daily basis - it's way early. Not even 10% into the season.

Seeing my Avalanche at 17 seems about right. We have a lot of new blood on the ice and Theadore isn't starting off real good, but I think that a playoff spot is a distinct possibility. A Cup this year? No, I really don't think so. They are a few years away from that, but they won't be a lay down team either.

The Dallas Stars are playing very good hockey but it is early in the season. There is no way Marty Turco is the NHL's best goalie. He'll collapse like he does every year.

sickleguy, just like you can't exalt someone for something they haven't accomplished yet, neither can you dis someone for something they haven't failed at yet. Through the first two weeks, Turco has been the league's best goalie, just like the Sabres have been the league's best team (by far). I can't really argue with this list either, but oh boy, is it ever going to change .

My BLACKHAWKS seem to be back but they have lost two in a row maybe I should just be glad they are playing competitively.

I don't know why you feel obligated to move the Bruins up. If they jell, maybe, but without a goaltender, they are going to stay bad.

A devastating blow to the Blackhawks. Michal Handzus was severely injured against ST. Louis Sat. eve. and this evening (Sunday Oct. 22) the Blackhawks announced he's out for the season with a torn up knee, making 2/3rds of the top line gone with Havlat's high ankle injury. In 2 short days this team gets devastated by injury. WTF! To further ad to Blackhawk Fan misery it was also announced Khabibulin is out for at least 2 weeks with a broken finger on his right hand. The team now more closely resemble their AHL affiliate then a 1st place Divisional NHL squad. I expect next months Power Rating to reflect the new reality in Chicago barring a minor miracle or two.

Come'on, the Blues are having a pretty good start (compared to last year). The are better than 27th.

Excellent analysis, sdd. I'm very glad that you didn't rank my Wings in the top ten. They are not clicking on all eight cylinders. Hell, they're looking like a four-banger with a spark knock stuck in a 4X4! Babcock needs to do a little wall-to-wall counseling on these guys, and get the offense going. Hasek is showing his age, and the defense isn't giving him his metamucil.
