Wouldn't you just love to sit and chat with this fine human being? The world could use more Iron Mikes.

You gotta hand it to a man who can use "impetuous", "impregnable", and "eat his children" all in the same quote.

Let Mikey taste it. He likes it. He likes it.

I never ever thought I could feel sorry for Mike Tyson, but after reading all of these quotes I do now. I showed them to my Psychiatric Nurse wife and she says he is obviously brain damaged and needs professional, inpatient, help. Incredible.

He seems much more self aware than I wouldv'e thought. Mike is a modern American mythic figure. He might as well be Greek.

Mike Tyson sucks! Er...I better rephrase that - Mike Tyson bites!

Tyson in a nutshell:

"One morning I woke up and found my favorite pigeon, Julius, had died I was devastated and was gonna use his crate as my stickball bat to honor him. I left the crate on my stoop and went in to get something and I returned to see the sanitation man put the crate into the crusher. I rushed him and caught him flush on the temple with a titanic right hand he was out cold, convulsing on the floor like a infantile retard."
Vulnerable, poignant, scary as fuck.

2 Tyson threads in a week. How many Ali threads in the past year? How many Marciano threads? How many current Champion threads in the past month? How many Boxing threads in the past 2 weeks (that don't include Tyson)? Sometimes this place becomes "makefunof filter" or "badattemptatcomedy filter". I can't wait to see the celebration thread when this poor guy finally dies. Mike Tyson sucks! Er...I better rephrase that - Mike Tyson bites! Sigh. Let Mikey taste it. He likes it. He likes it. lol lmao hahahah..WTF?----->straight face. Are you kidding? Is this really an FPP? The only thing missing is T$port saying how much smarter he is than Mike Tyson.

Hey Bishop...You need to loosen your tight ass. We all make fun of something now and then. If you can't lighten up and laugh once in a while, you will pass from this earth with a frown on your face! Mike tyson has made a fortune, mostly at being bad at something. If I want to poke fun at him, I am going to. After all, I work for a living.

You did read the other link too, right? Hardly seems like makefunoffilter. I will admit JCO's last book was a laugh riot.

Great collection. He's got to be one of the most entertaining athletes/person

Bishop, in my opinion, you're missing the point. Did you read the link? I believe it shows Tyson as a very, very complex and at times incredibly self aware person. He knows who he is, and he knows that because of the way he is is why he has amassed and lost millions. As they say, if Mike Tyson didn't exist, we would have to invent him. I urge you to read his quotes and read the discussion of him over at metafilter, and reevaluate your position.

I think at SpoFi we celebrate things, analyze things, mourn things and laugh at things all in the name of sports. This was not the best thread I have ever seen but I thought it was insightful to say the least. While saying someone "sucks" may rank right up there with "neener, neener" and "poo poo head" perhaps some lightening up IS in order. JMHO

Whether anyone likes it or not, anything that Mike Tyson does IS news. Tyson, IMO, was what a fighter should be...a beast. Aside from the craziness that surrounds him, the guy could flat-out fight. I'm not saying that he was a boxer, not by any means, but he could fight. The reason that his opposition were frightened by this guy when he was champion was because he basically laid everybody out...which is what everyone wanted to see when they came to watch a Tyson fight anyways.

I think I was referring to the comments more than the links, which is why I qouted them. And as far as Balivion instead of oblivion and cartilage instead of Carthage, have you heard Riddick Bowe speak latley? People hear Bowe speak and feel sorry for him. Tyson stumbles over some words and it's funny. Try to imagine the answer you'd get from Holyfield if you asked him about Carthage. You may be surprised how much more intelligent Tyson appears vs. these 2 guys. JMO

Bishop, cool, that's what I got from it too... Here are a few that really stick out to me, bearing in mind this man is a convicted rapist who punched people in the nose because that's how you "push the bone into the brain" "I don't know if I'm mentally sick, but I have... episodes sometimes. I'm a depressant kind of dude. I have episodes, and I'm human. But no one cares about my health as a human because sometimes I'm in my episodes when I'm at work." "I'm just a dark guy from a den of iniquity. A dark shadowy figure from the bowels of iniquity. I wish I could be Mike who gets an endorsement deal. But you can't make a lie and a truth go together. This country wasn't built on moral fiber. This country was built on rape, slavery, murder, degradation and affiliation with crime." My favorite Tyson quote of all time, though, isn't on the list. Maybe the guy who has the Tripod page can source it and include it. But I swear Tyson allegedly said during a fight where he was doing analysis or color commentary, after one fellow knocks the other out cold with a quick flurry, he says "They were fighting in two different time zones...east coast and daylight savings!"

Tyson.... Tyson... isn't he the heir to the frozen chicken throne?

posted by irunfromclones at 12:33 PM on October 23, 2006

I don't want to sit on that throne, I'll freeze my ass off. Can I move to Iran and sit on the Peacock Throne instead?
