Double your pleasure: Double your fun. For the first time in major league history, two games went 18 innings on the same day. It was the longest game in Rockies history, and the Cubs set a record by using all 25 men on their active roster.
Nothing spoke more to the Rockies' offensive absurdity than this: Jamey Carroll drove in Colorado's lone run on a double play groundout, the highlight of his 0-for-8 game that featured a combined 124 at-bats, including 61 for the Rockies. After Carroll's out, nearly 100 batters had an opportunity and came up empty. Gas prices, meanwhile, presumably rose 3 cents per gallon.posted by BullpenPro to baseball at 12:57 PM - 15 comments
Damn, that's a lot of baseball. I saw a twelve-inning game at Coors Field some years ago, and let me tell you something - twelve-inning 3-2 games at Coors Field are not something you expect to see, and those seats aren't meant for 12 innings either.

Thats a lot of baseball. Thats like buying 2 games for the price of one. Some fans are lucky, but I can't see too many people staying that late. Imagine sitting through the Longest baseball game! 32-inning game. It was the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings. IMAGINE THAT!

Ahhhhh, great day to be at Wrigley. "If you were a hot dog would you eat yourself? I would!" "What's your favorite planet? Mine's the sun! It's like the King of planets!"

Ahhhhh, great day to be at Wrigley. Not if you wanted to, you know, see any baseball. The Cubs were playing at Houston.

Not if you wanted to, you know, see any baseball. The Cubs were playing at Houston. *zing!* I got tired just reading the article. Even more interesting to me was clemens retaliating after being hit by a pitch (only the second time his whole career).

Even more interesting to me was clemens retaliating after being hit by a pitch (only the second time his whole career). They should have thrown at Roger's head. Then the ump would've known for sure they weren't trying to hurt him.

You gotta love The Rocket. His kid Kobe took him yard while playing for UT in a spring game last year, and the old man dusted him off the very first pitch in his next plate appearance...

Proving the old saying, "You can't spell 'class' with a K".

The Cubs and Astros got some serious help from their starters in today's day game. Jebus. The equivalent of three full games in ~ 21 hours. That's brutal.

You know what I love about many-extra-innings games? Everything. But especially, I love keeping score.

And also: they always remind me of this novel, which I loved.

The sports dork on CNN cracked me up yesterday morning when he said, "What's the point in even going back to the hotel? Crash in the clubhouse for a few hours, and you're back on the field!"

Not if you wanted to, you know, see any baseball. The Cubs were playing at Houston. Pfft. Like I'd let a minor fact get in the way of Harry Carrey tributes.

This article goes on to explain that the Cubs/Astros game included the use of 18 pitchers, an NL record. It was also the third 18-inning game Houston has played in less than a year.
