Knicks pursuing Van Exel?: The article states the Mavericks haven't been interested in trading Nick Van Exel (their sixth man) for Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward (throw-in).
Am I crazy or does this trade sound like a no-brainer for the Mavs? And what the hell is NY thinking? Are they trying to get worse and poorer? Are they intentionally trying to take on salary cap space?

I thought Kurt Thomas would be a good addition and I assumed that Ward was merely a salary-cap throw-in.
Are they both that bad?

The Knicks are really only two players away from winning it all. Unfortunately those two players are Shaq and Kobe. Make the trade, don't make the trade, the Knicks won't contend in the east either way, and that tells you where they are in the grand scheme of things.

What about the Mavericks? Does this hurt/help them?
Having Van Exel was good insurance for Nash, but would the Mavs sacrifice that safety net for a real rebounder?

I can't see how this does much for the Mavs - but then again I don't know much about the Mavs. The Mavs are pretty close, they're one of the top three teams in the league. Maybe they just need to play together for a full year, get the chemistry just right, keep Nash and Finley and Dirk and wait for the Lakers to break up. Ward and Thomas don't help them beat the Kings or Lakers, IMHO.

Thomas will help them beat Sacremento...he was damn incredible during the last 3-4 weeks of the regular season...djacobs, did you ever actually watch a Knicks game? Ward is a decent PG; definitely a worthy backup. The only problem is that Jackson is well past his prime and Childs/Ward are simply great backups, but not actual stars. Van Exel, in my opinion, would be a terrible addition to the already terrible Knicks. I just wish that they could buy out half of their existing contracts and get some decent players. Too bad no one is stupid enough to take on Houston or Spree. The Knicks got lucky that someone took Camby...fucking stooge, that player is.

In other news, the Knicks picked up Michael Doleac. If that doesn't get them to the Finals, I don't know what will.

In other news, again, the Knicks rejected a trade that would have brought Mutumbo to NY.
But don't worry, they're still trying to work out a trade to get Alonzo Mourning. Will they ever just give up?

Getting Zo to play for the Knicks is like Bird wearing a Laker jersey...even if it happens, Zo won't play with his heart.

Screw his heart. Will he play with his kidney?

I'm not sure how much you watched the Knicks this year --- Kurt Thomas and Charlie Ward are TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE, PLAYERS! WHAT THE FUCK, SCOTT LAYDEN?
