Why bother with the President's Cup?: Is this off-Ryder-Cup-years competition worth having? With most players lukewarm to it at best, and interest so-so in the golfing public's eye, maybe it's time to stop playing it. Or maybe not. This indifference is exactly the President Cup's problem. Nobody seems to really care except Tim Finchem and the suits at the PGA Tour.

The last one was awesome! (I'm pretty sure it was the last one, anyway). Except that it ended in a tie. Tiger claims the putt he made there was one of the best of his career. I think it's a great event. Seriously, with all of the "Shell Opens" we watch, why isn't this worthwhile?

I think the lack of comments may answer your question. Only hard core golf nuts really give a damn about this spectacle. (I, unfortunately, am one of them.) I can almost understand how the upper echelon U.S. players who qualify for both the Ryder Cup team and the President's Cup team year in and year out feel put upon. Overseas travel, security issues, no pay for the week,(not like any of them desperately need it, but hey, they are capitalists, too.) the pressure of having to compete for the flag, intense media scrutiny, and, (for the U.S team) having to function as a team instead of an individual all add up to a lot of BS. I always thought this event was contrived just because there was an opportunity for money to be made, after the vast increase in interest in the Ryder Cup showed it could be done.

Good point mjkredliner. The lack of interest in this post is telling, for sure. I usually watch the President's Cup when it's on but sometimes it seems like too much. Either way, some golf is better than no golf!!!

Why bother? World Rankings: Els -6th Singh - 4th Goosen - 3rd Weir - 42nd Appleby - 16th Ames - 27th Clark - 15th Scott - 9th Immelman - 34th Katayama - 43rd I think it would be a pretty damn competitive matchup against the best that America can produce, and I think it's in golf's best interest to have this tournament to help boost its profile outside of Europe and the US.
