Nadal Beats Federer, Ties Clay-Court Mark: "Nadal has won nine straight tournaments on clay. His 16th title also tied him with Bjorn Borg for most titles won as a teenager."
So it appears that no one really cares about this subject, but I say we are seeing the development of what might be a "best ever" type rivalry between Federer and Nadal. This is Bird/magic, or Agassi/Sampras, or even McEnroe/Connors (certainly Nadal is closer to Federer than Hewitt ever was). These two guys are so close in style, quickness, strength, etc... and they are by far the two most dominant players on the court, maybe ever in the case of Federer. Why does no one care??? *Cries in misery

everett, Federer isn't ever going to have a "rivalry" with anyone; he lacks the passion. McEnroe/Connors? Don't think so. I can only speak for myself, but I don't care -- much -- because Federer really bores me.

A rivalry is made by intensity of play from the players, closely fought battles (like yesterdays|), and fans who can appreciate the greatness present. Federer might bore you, but he is still one of the greatest players to ever step on the court. Nadal's challenge of that status is the stuff which breeds great match-ups. This will play out soon enough, and I hope it is fun.

everett, you asked why "no one cares" and I told you why I don't care. I can "appreciate the greatness" without getting excited about the guy. Perhaps if Nadal or someone else really pushes Federer, we may see some play with a little more emotion. Until then, for me, it's like watching a finely crafted Swiss watch: yes, it sure does tick along, doesn't it?

The boy can't be beat on clay. Should be a very good bet come French Open time.
