The Ron Francis Award?: NHL.com's John McGourty thinks to may be time for an award that goes to the traded player who does the most to help his new team toward a Stanley Cup.

If that happens, it's only fair that they create the Owen Nolan award to appease the other end of the spectrum.

Problem with this is to prove his point, McGourty names players accquired in trades, but did not necessarily become the key factor in winning the Stanley Cup (Sydor, Macoun). However, in NoMich's explination, the player who does most toward winning the Cup, the award would make more since. I still disagree with that since it would most likely end up in the best player that gets traded to a contender wins the award. Yes someone could come up big but I simply don't like the idea. Others might disagree.

That is maybe the dumbest award I've ever heard of.

Aren't there enough awards already. Seems to me that sports is getting too much like Hollywood. Just give themselves more and more awards. Enough already!

It looks like somebody didn't read the article.

Well I didn't think New Jersey needed to make a trade this year but after looking at the list at the end of the article maybe they should to keep the Stanley Cup winning tradition alive. The only problem is I never liked 'rent a players' because after the season is over and if you didn't win the cup then you have nothing to show for it. I think Lou already made his moves and they (Malahkov and Mogilny) did not work out. Keep the draft picks and let the young players (Parise, Martin, Hale) step up. The only problem with a Ron Francis award is what if 4 teams that didn't make trades make it to the conferference finals. If you don't make it that far, did you really go toward a Stanley Cup?

To tell the truth, I think it's a pretty silly idea, but I thought others might find it a worthy thought. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he wants to name the award after Ronnie Franchise.

How about making an award for the player that was traded away from the team for that player who helped the team win the Stanley Cup?
