Jeff Novak, the former Jacksonville Jaguars lineman who won a $5.35 million award Friday after suing the team doctor for malpractice, says there's a moral to the story for NFL management: "even the guys that are expendable, you better take care of them."

Good for Novak. This story got me thinking about Kenny Easley, strong safety for the Seattle Seahawks back in the Jack Patera days. Easley was voted to several Pro Bowls and one year he was defensive player of the year in the AFC. Long story short, Easley was told by team doctors to take some asinine amount of painkillers every day (ibuprofen) which he believes ultimately led to his kidney failure. Then because he didn't go quietly into the night the Hawks refused to induct him into the Ring of Fire (Seahawks hall of fame) which was bullshit because he was clearly one of the greatest Seahawks ever. Anyway the Hawks acquiesced and he'll be inducted this year I believe. Unbelieveable what football players go through for their craft.
