Mexico skier qualifies, gets denied trip to Games: "I've been training for three years for this, I've got my qualification points and then they tell me a few days before the Games that they aren't going to send a team, it is really annoying..."
Add to your list, wc2k2, from what I recall of the opening parade: Luxembourg and Senegal. It's a bit of a shame for Mexico, but they've an extremely important election forthcoming. Given the fact that Hubertus von Hohenlohe has both been there and done that, I can't feel *too* sympathetic for his cause. Yeah, it'd be nice, but it would've been nicer had he done this back when he was competitive.

We were just busting my (Mexican) sister-in-law's chops for this last night. You would think in a country with so many people, that there would be a couple of athletes participating.

That's a shame for the guy who would have qualified for the olympics. A person works so hard, but yet you're own country won't let them compete for a great reward. That's sad, I feel sorry for that guy.

Why doesn't he just compete with another country? Just because he's from Mexico doesn't mean he can't belong to another team. Most of the athletes don't seem to be from where they say and most all go to college, have gone to college, currently reside in and/or train in the US. It's too bad we don't have any defectors from the US to any other country so we could fit him in our team. I wonder why that is?

Maybe because to be charged with treason or traitorous activity would be worse than missing the Olympics. I do feel bad for the guy though.

Did we really expect anything more from a country who sends all their problems to the US?

Yeah, Reeves, they should maybe send them here so they can go as illegal immigrant entrants for the US, and then defect their medals back to Mexico. Although they would probably have sold them to US buyers on eBay the day after the Olympics anyway.

the Mexican Olympic Committee decided against sending him as a one-man team. Some one-person country teams in Torino: Albania Bermuda Cyprus Ethiopia Hong Kong Kenya Kyrgyzstan Thailand Venezuela I wasn't being thorough, just guessing at the unlikely countries. For shame, Mexico.
