Sports agent, 39, has last chance for Olympic dream today.: The article is nearly a month old, but I heard on NPR this morning that Patrick Quinn, after failing to qualify for the USA speed-skating team over the past two Winter Olympics, will attempt to qualify for the two-man luge USA team today. All he and luge partner Christian Niccum need to do is finish fifth at Lake Placid today, in the final World Cup race of the year. This after missing the previous qualifying race just one month ago when they wiped out and Niccum had to be taken to hospital with a concussion. Anyone know where I can get a live radio or Net audio or news feed for this event?

I may have found a link to live coverage from the official World Cup site, but there's nothing there now. Crap.

JJ said: Two-man luge? Will the madness never end? All that ice and cold I'm sure makes people come up with these nutty sports. Is this event in your Olympic quest? ;-p

Man I love curling. It's almost as fun to watch as olympic trampolening.

Man I love curling. It's almost as fun to watch as olympic trampolening. Actually, I kinda dig curling. I have never played but I got into during the last Winter Games. It's strategy, patience, skill and timing. Besides, who can blame them. When you live in a cold climate you do anything to amuse yourself.

Curling is sort of like shuffleboard on ice. And I bet it's a hell of a lot more fun if you're drinking. As for luge, skeleton, bobsled, etc, you have to give it up to anyone willing to hurl themselves down those terrifying runs. I think the random winter sports are WAY better than the random summer "sports" (synchronized swimming, rhythmic gymnastics?!).

Curling is one of my favorite sports, as a matter of fact. Superstars include Kevin Martin. Stars include Carter Rycroft, Don Walchuck, and Don Bartlett. Most of the pros are Canadians as the above mentioned. The sport was invented by Canadians. Go Canada!!!

Those guys did it! Finished fourth and forced a best-of-three race-off for next Wednesday.

Apparently, I missed an important detail: Finishing fifth doesn't win them a place. It just forces a race-off with another team for the second and last team berth on the USA 2006 Winter Olympic team. Damn.
