The bloody sock, however, is not for sale. : Curt Schilling (aka the pitcher from Boston) auctioned off the subpoena he received to testify before Congress in March. The proceeds will be donated to charity.

I'd like to see an auction of the styrofoam cup that once contained a certain spofite's coffee and that pitcher from Boston's dip spit. I got $5, opening bid.

No offense intended to said spofite, of course. Just got a kick out of that story.

I have some used surgical staples from my Chest surgery! They might bring a buck on the auction market. :-) Seriously, its nice Schilling did this for charity. Its really shocking to me as to whats selling in memorabilia market--toothpicks, used chewing gum, etc. Did ty Cobb's false teeth get sold???--gross

False teeth? ewwww...................... Good for Schilling to give to charity.

When the teeth were purchased back then they brought about 8,000. Not sure if they have ben sold since then. Story has it that Cobb used to soak the Teeth in Scotch before wearing!? I had a link but it was bad--I was trying to find a picture of Cobb's teeth.

the teeth were purchased in 2001, I am not sure if they have been sold since. They also spent time at Coopertown in the HOF! I havent been able to get any links to work on this.....

in defense of schilling, he does have big heart when it comes to fighting for ALS. i can't say anything bad about his charitable work. sometimes, though, I think he tries to hard to be the "good guy" and he puts his face and name out in the media too much for some of us. also, I think if he lost some of that gut he developed while being on the dl, he would put less stress on that ankle and probably be a little more effective than 5 innings 6 runs he put up vs. the Omaha Royals last night.

If his charity work didn't seem like self-promotion, that'd be nice. Of course, it's not like he's a big fan of Jesus or anything, so he probably hasn't heard that message.

To be honest, erkno11, nobody was knocking Schilling for selling the item for charity. The amusing thing is the silly stuff people are paying money for. Collectors will collect just about anything....It was nice that he got as much as he did. Everybody would agree that Schilling tries to be a "good guy." That was not the issue of the link--IMO by the way--I have a 1.00 bid for my surgical staple, Do I hear $2.00? ;-)

When Rafael Palmeiro auctions off the finger he used to point at the Congressional subcommittee, I'm so gonna bring ebay to its knees.

How about auctioning off the sweat soaked handkerchief McGwire used wiping off his brow while stammering through his Congressional speech.

daddisam, sorry i missed the point of the link. i'll think out my comments more clearly now so I don't get called out anymore. I would hate to waste valuable space on these intellectually stimulating conversations that go on in here. i have a good time reading these and putting my two cents in from time to time.
