Dunno about that, rcade, but young athletes generally have to learn the hard way about their limits, and sometimes they exceed them in a way that has permanent consequences. I was talking recently to a kid who'd thrown himself out in a big game last year. It was really eerie to hear the words, "My arm hasn't been the same since," in the voice of an 11-year-old. He didn't know when to say when -- that's something coaches need to realize.

"...besides, strike outs are facist. Throw some groundballs" Hasn't this kid seen Bull Durham?

Yeah -- we could ruin him by playing him too early like David Clyde. Has anyone heard that the last thing you should do, when your kid has a strong arm, is to let him pitch? Someone told me once that kids like that throw themselves out, and the ones who become pitchers in their late teens have a better shot.
