Mavs owner Mark Cuban to buy the Pittsburgh Pirates?: Local writer John Perrotto, citing Cuban as a "lifelong Pirates fan" says: "To have a risk taker own the Pirates would be a refreshing change of pace from people who run their business like most newspaper people do, cut everything to the barebones and try to bleed as much profit as possible. Just as important, Cuban would bring some personality to a franchise in desperate need of some revitalization." However, he adds "Alas, Cuban buying the Pirates is likely nothing more than a fantasy. While McClatchy has said he might consider stepping down as CEO after next year's All-Star Game at PNC Park, the Nuttings provide the money behind the operation and are said to be in it for the long haul, particularly as long as the Pirates are profitable. Thus, the chances of seeing Cuban sitting in McClatchy's seat are slim, even if it is great fun to speculate on what might be."

the Nuttings provide the money behind the operation and are said to be in it for the long haul, particularly as long as the Pirates are profitable. Wouldn't be nice if they were interested in being in it for the long haul, particluarly as long as the Pirates are competitive? Bubba...while I won't condone Cuban's antics...can you honestly say that he was bad for the NBA and the Mavericks??? I don't think so...I think he would do everything he could to make his team competitive...which is more than most owners can say.

Mark Cuban might just be what the Pittsburgh Pirates and the hard working people [fans] of Pittsburgh need.

The last interesting thing to memory about the Pirates is when Barry Bonds and Bobby Bonilla were one of the most feared duos of that generation (debatably moreso than McGwire/Canseco). And that was what...15 years ago? The Pirates definitely some revitalizing.

with some reservation about a comment, as I guess volfire is the only one with anything intelligent to say... I think Cuban is great.. Look what Ted Turner did with the same type attitude..Gee volfire is that to dumb for public consumption??????

At least he would be willing to spend some money, and swing for some crazy deals. It's not like Mark Cuban's moves will cause the Pirates to freefall to the bottom of the division; they're already there.

I live in Pittsburgh and would love to see some enthusiasm thrown into the Pirates. The Steelers get all the attention here. The Penguins use to when they had a winning team. The Pirates will never get out of being a middle of the pack franchise if they don't spend some money. Any time they have a few good players, they get traded away because they want more money and management won't spend it. I think Mark Cuban is exactly what this team and city needs. Spend some money and give the city something to look forward to besides football season. White trash Pittsburgh fans? This coming from a guy named Bubba? I lived in Georgia for 30 years. I've seen redneck, white trash people. Some named Bubba. Pittsburgh is far from Georgia.

From what I have heard and read, the Stadium the Pirates play in is one of the better ones of the new stadiums. It would be nice to see a quality team that would match the stadium.

BubbaG is just a misogynistic troll. Just look at the posting history (Including using the phrase "Dumb bitch", and refering to the rest of the community as "bitches"). Don't take the bait, please.

Mark Cuban has no buisness owning a baseball team

And Mike Ilitch does? I think anyone should be able to own a professional franchise, as long as they can afford it (*cough*Glazier*cough*) and they aren't creating a collusion situation. Especially if the owner is willing to make the franchise competitive.

Like the Pirates could get any worse... He'd at least get them new Uni's. You could watch a team that looked good while it sucked.

Hey, we need Mark. He can bring excitement and money to our team. We have set up a web site: http://www.buyusmark.com Buy a shirt, wear it to a game.

Yeah thats what we need, Cuban to spit in the face of our national past time. I can see it now Cuban upset at the ump wandering on to the field giving those white trash Pittsburgh fans the idea that its ok to do that. I dont think it would be just a bad idea for Pitt, but a bad idea for baseball.
