"Let me go out on a limb and say that if I had played during that era I would have taken steroids"
: Which Hall of Fame slugger said this? None other than Mike Schmidt. However, a fellow Hall of Fame member had a much different view on the matter.

It's sad to see Schmidt admit that, because I like to think that he'd be just as much of a standout in this era regardless of what some dopes were putting into their bodies. To me, his admission points to the reason that steroids should never be allowed within the rules. Most professional athletes are insanely competitive, because without that drive they wouldn't have been able to reach the pros. Allowing performance enhancing drugs means that athletes who choose to remain clean will have to accept falling behind the cheaters. And I'll bet a lot of athletes are like Schmidt, and wouldn't be able to accept that.
