Who's qualified for World Cup 2006?: Asia has got 4 in (they're allocated 4.5 - intercontinental playoffs are involved) already: Japan (the first one in), Iran, Korea and Saudi Arabia. Europe has 1 (they're allocated 14 spots): Germany, hosts, auto-qualified. South America also has 1 (allocation 4.5): Argentina. Brazil, current champions, have to play their way in, auto-qualification for champions having been removed after 2002. Africa (5), CONCACAF (3.5 - Go USA!) and Oceania (0.5) have no qualifiers yet.

September 3rd is USA v. Mexico. Should be an entertaining match. I didn't catch where the game is being played though. Anybody know? Has it even been set yet?

Can someone please explain the .5 of a team? Seems liek only havign half their team would put them at a huge disadvantage. :)

The .5 means that there is an intercontinental playoff. For instance, in CONCACAF, the top 3 teams qualify automatically, and the 4th place team in qualifying has to play the 5th place team from Asia in a playoff to determine which of those two makes it to the World Cup.

scottypup, all regions with a .5 qualifying number have countries who will have to go to a playoff. For Germany '06 the fifth place team from South America will play the winner of the Oceania region in a home and a away series with the winner going to Germany. Also, the fourth place team from COCNCACAF plays the fifth place team from Asia in a home and away with the winner going to Germany.

I was looking forward to South America's biggest rivalry this past weekend between Argentina and Brazil, but Argentina totally dominated, although Brazil was missing a few key players - Brazil will qualify again and be one of the favorites in Germany. The USA team looks as strong as any in recent years.
