Rudy a hero, again?: He sanitized NYC, and some people didn't like him too much for that. Then he was the face of bravery and poise for a city, and maybe even a nation, that needed it. Now he might save N.A. pro hockey. I know nothing beyond what the article provides, but count me as optimistically curious based on one fact: the man knows how to come out on top at a time of crisis.

I can count five billion reasons to be skeptical. And that's just for starters.

I was wondering when someting like this would happen. I too, am a bit skeptical.....

true enough. $5 bill is a huge number. But there are quite a few interesting stories, tangentially related, today that are making me wonder if a NHL alternative is actually plausible: the $4bill offer to buy the NHL, ESPN is done talking (for now), IMG's well-founded claim that unsigned (2003 draft) and un-offered players (2004 draft) become free-agents 06/01/05, the majority of players, i.e. younger players, are against the current deal developing, and with the NHL testing out bulging nets...well, I'd say that's the wrong direction (though I like smaller goalie equipment and increasing long passing). Who knows. Maybe I enjoying thinking there is more pressure on the League than there actually is.

I really doubt this is gonna happen.

Who said I wasn't an NHLPA plant? Well Eklund didn't say it, but that doesn't make it any less true....Bwahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! I don't think it'll happen either, but it definitely adds to the convoluted spectrum the League has to negotiate through. The Union is sitting pretty, and the League is losing friends left, right and center.

A deal will be done by June 15th. Probably ON June 15th.

The plans for this new league have already been shitcanned. That was quick.

" the plan was dropped two weeks ago because of time constraints." interesting.

so, who are these two parties meeting, for a THIRD consecutive day, an unplanned day no less, and they didn't even need the weekend to 'regroup', which would've been par for the course for these patient-to-a-fault sides.

I'm assuming they're meeting each other. Am I missing something?

at some point today they'll be face to face... usually these scheduled two day meetings end with 'more meetings scheduled' for next week or whenever they feel like expensing another trip....they never meet on friday. i think its the first friday meeting throughout this entire process. i might be wrong on that, but i'm pretty sure this is a change in the standard operating procedure of the negotiations. nothing substantial, but something to chew on. i need to explain myself better.

Ah. Gotcha. It really looks like there's a huge push to get a deal worked out by the middle of the month, and I'm actually feeling optimistic for the first time in a long time. Hopefully the media isn't blowing this whole "deal nearly done" stuff out of proportion. I'm not sure how much more disappointment I can handle. I'm starting to really enjoy watching baseball games on TV. That scares me.

I'm starting to really enjoy watching baseball games on TV. That scares me. Pardon me, I'm laughing so hard the people in the next office suite knocked on the door to see if there was a problem.
