The Sports Economist:: a blog that deserves some love. I was only going to steal this Slate story about Free Throw Defense when I realized how much good stuff I find at this site. Maybe the econ and sports together only works for me, but there's something decent every week.

That's a blog with varied sports coverage, and an angle statisticians, finance and econ majors (like me) would love. Nice pointer.

This is good, fatty. Like hit the "Subscribe with bloglines" bookmarklet good. IIRC, there are actually quite a number of SpoFiers with Econ backgrounds (myself included). I hadn't noticed the synchronized fan waving thing at Mavs games, although - to be fair - I missed the Celtics and Bucks games. I'll keep an eye out for it during Saturday's game against the Pacers. Engber had one thing right for sure, though. Cuban is *exactly* the right owner to hit up with an idea like that. For everything he does that is cringe-inducing, he'll do something like this that totally makes me want to forgive and forget the Benefactor.

I've trolled on the best Duke board to find a bored Duke ugrad who'll run the numbers on ft% at Cameron :) Ufez: I'm sure you're already a reader, but Cuban's blog is in my 'interesting people' feed.

Unfortunately, the Slate story ends with Cuban "firing" the guy, so I think it's over before it started. Now I just have to get in touch with Wyk Grosbeck.

Thanks for the link, as an economist myself (according to the local paper anyway), I spend most days at work dreaming of a way to put my skills to some less practical (and sporting) use. Sites like this give me hope.

I hadn't noticed the synchronized fan waving thing at Mavs games A close friend's father, a tenured physicist, told me years ago the best way to screw up free throws would be for the crowd behind the basket to stand up in unison very slowly.
