Charlie Weis takes the job.: Notre Dame has hired the Pats offensive coordinator to take over the embattled program. He's a good football coach, but is he the right man for the job?
He's a good football coach, but is he the right man for the job? You mean, can he play the stupid university politics? No idea. I hope he doesn't even try. I hope he just says, "This is how I intend to run it, and if you don't like that, fire me." I'm no expert on Notre Dame or college football, but as a Pats fan, my opinion is that that bunch of weeners probably doesn't deserve him no matter what they're paying him.

Interesting that Weis got a six year deal, compared to the five years most of his predecessors' contracts ran. If he's 21-15 after three years, will he get the boot too?

I'm torn. I love the Patriots and I'm happy for Weis getting a sweet job. But I despise Notre Dame. Damn it.

As long as he's winning big time, I imagine they'll let him say whatever he wants. It doesn't hurt that he's an alum, so they'll probably cut him a little more slack. But let him start losing at ND, watch out. Then he'll have to play the politics and satisfy the boosters cries, or he'll be out too.

I don't know why he would want the job when he would probably get a head coaching position after the end of the season. ND is getting a great coach, but an unproven head coach. The only head coaching experience he has was at the high school level.

I don't know why he would want the job when he would probably get a head coaching position after the end of the season. That's not a given no matter how talented he is; in fact, the argument is that his talent is part of the reason why he doesn't have a head coaching position already. According to NFL regs, he can't be hired while his team is still in the playoffs. He had interviews with the Jets and the Bills last January, but they signed other coaches while Weis was still officially unavailable.

And Tyrone Willingham has found himself a job in Seattle as the new coach at U-Dub. I hope they give him more than three years.
