Shortly after drafting Boston College offensive lineman Chris Snee in the second round, the New York Football Giants let the media know that Snee fathered Coach Tom Coughlin's grandchild.

I believe Coughlin when he says that this pick is based solely on football. But Snee better not be a bust, or the tabloids will kill both of them.

BTW, they took Snee early in the second round, not in the first.

Corrected; thanks.

When Coughlin was in Jacksonville, a lot of players ended up hating his guts because of his sour demeanour and enforcement of ticky-tack rules. This could end up being a situation where Snee is either in the coach's doghouse for poor play or in his teammates' doghouse for being favored by Coach Dad-in-Law.

interesting story. I think it was the right pick for the Giants regardless... they need the O Line help. Still not sure how I feel about getting Manning, or Coughlin for that matter.

I love Tom Coughlin. He's as old school as Tom Landry, and watching his sourpuss expression on the sidelines for years was one of the best things about being a Jacksonville Jaguars fan. I hated seeing him get fired for a flavor of the month like Jack of the River. He's also a damn good coach, but I don't know if you can still be old-school and succeed in today's NFL.

Coach Dad-in-Law. The child was fathered out of wedlock. I assume she'll make an honest man of him now though. Otherwise going to work may be dangerous.

The Giants have a history of picking kids with prior relationships with them, but I suppose every team does...just look at Fitzgerald and Dennis Green. I suppose I'm a little bitter because the Ron Dayne selection had a lot to do with him being a Jersey kid (if I remember right, it might have even been a connection to Acorsi) when there were other backs (Shaun Alexander) available. As far as Manning goes I think the Giants caved quite a bit in giving a #1 next year. That seems like a lot, but he does have amazing potential. I think it's a little funny that San Diego still needs to pay the first pick premium to Rivers though. ( I imagine the Giants weren't willing to go up there originally and take that burden, just in case Gallery fel to 4 )

and Coughlin is going to scream at that Snee kid more than you can imagine.
