Could this be the year?: The best record in all of Major League Baseball belongs to the Housecats. Meow. Not many gave them much chance this year. Is it the magic touch of Ivan Rodriguez? What's gonna happen when they play a good team? (At posting time, they are behind 3-0 in the 6th to Minn.)

It's 7-4 now, in the bottom of the 7th...damn Tigers, making me forget about playoff hockey for the afternoon...

What's gonna happen when they play a good team? since when is toronto not a good team? if they were in the central last season they would have cleaned up. i'm excited about the baseball season but it's just 3 games. can they turn it around? sure, anything can happen. after last year, it can't get any worse for the tigers....and the central is wide open, the division is for the taking. but if i were a tigers fan, i'd take 75-77 wins and run....that would be a killer turn around. anything more than that almost defies the laws of turnarounds. (whatever those laws are)

I'm listening to the Tigers now. That crowd is rocking.

10-4 now in the bottom of the 8th! Still, I think a 4-0 start for the Tigers will do more for their morale after they nearly broke the record for futility last year than it will for their playoff chances. Anyway, this is baseball, and four games are pretty much meaningless. I really don't think they have the pitching to compete in the Central, and they'll probably have a losing record at the All-Star break. Of course, having said that, we'll probably have a Tigers-Brewers world series this year.

Maybe Pudge didn't sell his soul after all?

I am pissed. Two outs in the bottom of the 6th. Twins are up 3-0. Hey, let's walk three batters and then throw a wild pitch. Arrghh. In our defense, the Twins are playing their AA team right now. Torii Hunter is out with a hamstring problem, starting catcher phenom Joe Mauer out with a bad knee, backup catcher Matthew Lecroy out with a rib problem. Way to go Detroit. Maybe this year you can get within 47 games of first place.

One thing is for certain, there is no stopping them; the Tigers will win the central. And I, for one, welcome our new feline overlords.

If they get to 35-5, give me a call. Their young pitching is coming of age (assuming Bonderman's ok after getting tagged with a line drive last night) and they have some guys who can get on base (losing Dimitri Young for 6 weeks hurts).

Looks like they'll be playing the Brewers in the World Series.

If they get to 35-5, give me a call. Woohoo, dusting off the 'Bless You Boys' reference. 4-0! Bring on the Padres! So Detroit is probably what, 3-4 games over their Pythagorean already?

It took them like 25 games to win 3 last year, so this is an improvement... but then again... the Royals had a smokin' start last year too.

Maybe Pudge didn't sell his soul after all? Ivan didn't sell his soul (well, not ALL of it) ... the Tigers did. The contract is still idiocy on the part of Detroit, simply because they could have had him for less. No one else was exactly champing at the bit, and they were admittedly willing to overspend. Having said that, it was a great signing for Detroit. As bad as the Tigers were last year, they had nowhere to go but up, and signing Rodriguez just pumped more life into the fans and the young guys on the team. Do I think they're going to the Series? Of course not. They still have a terrible pitching staff, and losing Young for at least six weeks is harsh. But I think they will win 70 games. Too bad they aren't doing it in the old Tiger Stadium. Man, that place kicked ass.

Ahh, and what a World Series that would be... divided by a Great Lake... two blue-collar towns duke it out for the championship... excellent. Hey, at least it's nice to have a good start to the season. Somebody has to be last in the league -- it's just nice to turn over the reins to someone else for a week or so.

Having said that, it was a great signing for Detroit. Welcome to the Pudge bandwagon, Frazer. There are a lot of guys you could blast for money grubbing and a lack of loyalty, but I've always thought that Pudge was one of the cornerstone players who's worth more than their numbers might suggest.

Good lord. It's FIVE GAMES into the season. Five games. Not nearly enough time to draw conclusions. On the other hand, the Mariners are 0-5, which proves Bill Bavasi is a big dumbass.
