Earlier this week Drew Henson renounced his contract with the Yankees, leaving $12 million on the table to return to football. Several teams may be interested in trading for Henson with the Houston Texans. Was the Texans' pick of Henson in the sixth round the best long-term, low-round gamble since the Cowboys drafted USFL-bound Herschel Walker in the fifth round in 1985 and Navy-bound Roger Staubach in the 10th round in 1969?
Poor Phil Rivers, just can't catch a break.

All this hype for someone who hasn't played in years. I hope a team I dislike wastes a pick (or a trade) on him and he turns out the way I expect him to - as a bust.

I agree Bernreuther. The hype surrounding his NFL status almost seems greater than his anticipated success as a Yankee. I realize that wearing pinstripes is one of the most difficult ways to break into the majors and Henson only had 9 Major League at bats (.111) but a lot of pundits out there seem to think he is a lock as a franchise quarterback. Personally, I'm more intrigued by this Ben Roethlisberger guy myself and I don't usually buy into Kiper's picks.

I don't think so. I think that, if Henson doesn't get precisely what he wants from the Texans and/or the team that trades for his rights, he'll re-enter the draft. He'll be drafted higher and likely get more cash, so why wouldn't he? Though the NY Daily News article undercut its credibility with this: "If Henson is not traded by the Texans by April 24, he would be available in the draft where, he would almost certainly be a top-three pick." Most projections I've heard, including Mel Kiper's, say Henson would be the third quarterback taken in the draft -- after Manning and Roethlisberger, but before Phillip Rivers.
