LSU finally fired hoops coach Matt McMahon, long after the news broke that they were bringing Will Wade back.

Great sequence of events, classy moves all around by LSU and Wade.

McMahon has an $8 million buyout. Governor Landry is gonna love that.

Alabama and Mississippi are looking like Athenian Greece compared to Louisiana at the moment.

I have been AWOL for a few weeks. A family member who had gone into hospice a month ago died last weekend, and while we've gone through that my brain didn't want to do much of anything outside of work.

Aww, Rogers! I'm so sorry for your loss. And as someone who was a full time (and job searching) caretaker of our (then) suicidal daughter, I know how emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausting that is.Go full on Duval County for a while.

Plus, they owe State $4 million for poaching Wade.
Hurricanes coach Rod Brin'Amour weighed in with his thoughts on the Will Wade situation. Disclosure: Brindy married into Wolfpack basketball royalty.

I have a friend here that is from a family that has very deep Raleigh and Wolfpack athletics roots that said this about my question regarding Justin Gainey:

Gainey has never been a head coach, which invites some concerns but yeah ... culturally you couldn't find a better fit. And there's some who have told me that Boo was pushing him last year. He'll be involved in the process, and apparently Corrigan is at least asking about St Louis coach Josh Schertz, who is one of the better offensive minds in college. I've seen Phil Martelli Jr's name floating around too. Those are both solid guys who have won at lower levels, although Shertz has more experience. I like the Furman coach Bob Richey as well. Another solid coach who has stuck it out through some tough circumstances to build a winner at a not so easy place to win.

Eldrick in another accident.

Rolled his vehicle multiple times.

Neither driver went to hospital.

Woods showed no sign of alcohol impairment.

Refused a urinalysis test.

And my UNC insider(ish) told me this when I asked their search:

Not much. It's been the same 3-4 since the beginning but nothing concrete. Lloyd, Dusty May, Donovan. Some others swear they aren't leaving their school, but have reached out to UNC anyway ... Funny how that works ... . But other than knowing that Donovan would want the job just not sure he's #1 on UNC's list ... the others are hard to nail down. Hard to tell if they're just wrangling for a raise and if UNC is really interested. The basketball side does a decent job of keeping their mouth shut so it's hard to gauge where things are right now. They had a ton of interest but other than being able to narrow down 4-5 guys, it's been fairly quiet. Donovan has made it no secret ... since the job first opened when Roy retired ... that the UNC job is the only one he would leave the NBA for, just not sure how interested UNC is at this point. I have been busy the last couple nights so I haven't gotten an update since Wednesday.

Wonder how unified and seamless the situation is at UNC with Bubba giving way to some Nascar guy at AD. Kind of an important hire, no matter who makes the decision.

Hopefully, Tommy Lloyd is smart enough to avoid an uncertain situation like that, but at Michigan, Dusty May is by now used to all sorts of things happening in the athletic department. What UNC has going on would be an easy day in Ann Arbor.

It would be ironic if Hubert was let go partly because they figured Will Wade's NCSU teams were only going to get better and UNC had no intention of being the #3 team in the state.
