"if there ever was a fan base more deserving of a Euripidean pratfall than this one, it probably was the people who followed the St. Louis Rams to New Orleans two years ago to enjoy the easy dispatch of the New England Patriots." ZING!

"I have not argued yet that the National Media fail to give the Patriots sufficient love, and that the Pro Bowl voters cheated them, too, and that McNair and Manning are shams and mockeries of MVP quarterbacks because they are not Tom Brady who, you may have heard, is Joe Montana." ZANG! /I wanna kiss you... can I kiss you?

I don't know about anyone outside my immediate circle of freinds, but we're scared shitless here: I never knew what it was like to be The Favorite before and none of us likes it. When you think of the citizenry of Red Sox Nation, to a person believing their position on the couch controls the fate of their team, hearing fellow "fans" talking about what walkovers any and all possibe opponents are, know that we're nervous wrecks. I know full well the Titans are a good team and Steve McNair is deserving of either half of an MVP award. People who speak otherwise are bandwagon jumpers. Charlie Pierce is one of the Good Guys, but his suggestion that certain Globe football writers "are roasted on Patriots cyber-fanzines for, as best I can judge, insufficiently deep genuflection," he's being too cute by half. Get Ron Borges drunk enough and he'd still insist Tom Donahoe was NFL exec of the year and Buffalo would be the Pats in a fair fight. New England sports fans come in for a lot of grief in the media now that the Sox and Pats are doing well. Unfortunately, many of the yahoos indicted are those that swell the ranks after any hint of success. The crowds who chanted "Beat LA!" aren't here anymore and holding a bunch of BC undergrads to those standards is a waste of everyone's time.

No respect, pleez. That''s the Pats' #1 juju. No respect. From anyone, except those of us who don't bellow it on the street.

There is no myth. These fucking nutters are going to sit outside in a -25 wind chill to watch a game. -25? NEGATIVE TWENTY FIVE. Totally, totally insane. Totally trumps anything I've ever done.
