Brett Favre has the game of his life after losing his father the night before.: In his 205th consecutive start, Favre had a personal-best first half of 311 passing yards and lobbed four beautiful TD passes to cap the Raiders 41-7 in an extremely emotional game Monday night.
"I knew that my dad would have wanted me to play," Favre said. "I love him so much, and I love this game. It's meant a great deal to me, to my dad, to my family, and I didn't expect this kind of performance. But I know he was watching tonight."
Certainly one of the all time great halfs in NFL history. The first, that is. Any bets against these guys making the playoffs now? Anyone?

Any self-respecting Pro-Bowler's yards per attempt average: Roughly seven to eight yards. Favre's first half: 17.2 yards per attempt. (13.3 ypa for the game.) Throw four TDs and a 70-percent clip in there and I wouldn't be surprised if his QB rating for the night wasn't near perfect. If it was perfect, my guess is that it would be in the game accounts.

Great performance by Favre.
Voice of dissent: I think the Packers will lose next week and miss the playoffs. Even discounting the emotional hangover from this game, they can't stop the run. And they play Denver. Bad combination.

It was mentioned on ESPN that even if the Pack wins next week, they aren't assured a playoff berth, but stopped short of an explanation, in honor of the Brett.

The Seattle P-I has a good summary of the wacky scenarios from a Seahawks fan's perspective anyway. Of Seattle, Green Bay, and Minnesota, two teams make the playoffs. One has to be either Green Bay or Minnesota, whoever wins the division.
If the Pack wins, they're all but assured a berth. The only way they miss out is if Seattle wins AND Dallas loses to New Orleans. [Minnesota might have to win, too, for that scenario to kick in, but they're playing the Cardinals, so that's a gimme.]

I want to stand up and say that there's no way the Seahawks with a gimpy QB will beat my Niners but I've tempted fate far too often in 2003 to do that. Still, the whole TO broken collarbone does give one hope.

I expect something on the amber side when you lose, vito.

I had a feeling he was going to do something special. I also had a feeling his team was going to seriously step up and get his back. I love that guy. The Pack victory effectively slammed the door shut on the Seahawks post-season hopes, and I almost don't care.
