Two fun Theismann stats:
He returned 17 punts for 157 yards with a long of 44. With Sonny Jurgensen and Billy Kilmer ahead of him in 1974-75, he was desperate to get on the field in any capacity.
He kicked one punt for one yard. The punter was injured and Theismann talked Joe Gibbs into letting him try a punt. The result was the shortest punt in NFL history.

Man that guy can talk. One of the all-time chatterboxes.
Theismann has risen a notch on the grand list of yakkers due to the presumed hushing of Craig James in observance of the passing of Mike Leach.
Joe was part of one of the great NFL coaching accomplishments: Joe Gibbs winning three Super Bowls with three different QB's.

Two things I learned from A Football Life: Joe Theismann: His wide receiver at South River High School in New Jersey was Drew Pearson and Notre Dame convinced Theismann to change the pronunciation of his name from THESE-man to THIGHS-man as part of a Heismann campaign.
Pearson kept calling him THESE-man when they reunited on the field where their first touchdown was a 66-yard bomb and I thought it was a bit.
Didn't like Theismann as a childhood Cowboys fan but grew to like his work in the booth, which began improbably when he worked a Super Bowl broadcast while still playing.
