I was working in Hawaii at the time. With the 5 hour time difference to the East Coast, some of the televised 'events' shown as late night fillers were actually in prime time in Hawaii. Sports addict that I am, I frequently found myself staring at one contest or another wondering "what am I watching and why am I watching it"? I was off to Japan for 3 more years after this, and I returned to the US to a maturing ESPN. There is much to dislike about them, but they still broadcast many of the biggest events, and do a creditable job of it as well.
