Much discussion among the TV talking heads in Boston about the Celtics and their stunning turnaround from a sub-.500 team to Conference Champions. It reminded me of another Boston team that accomplished a similar feat. The 1914 Boston Braves were in last place in the National League in July before catching fire and winning the pennant by 10 1/2 games. To top off the season, they swept the Philadelphia Athletics in the World Series. I am not quite old enough to remember this, but the story is told here.

And the 1966 Red Sox were only a half game out of the cellar before taking the vaunted Cards to a seventh game in 1967.

For 1966 Red Sox fans, it's not the end of the world if the team stinks that bad as long as the team in the cellar below you is the Yankees.

Also, yesterday I learned that Ime Udoka's middle name is Sunday. When it mattered most, he cashed it in.
