I got a ticket to tonight's Rangers/Hurricanes tilt. Hopefully I don't bring bad luck with me into the arena. It got close to 100 degrees with high humidity today. I'm sure the ice will be terrible.

Enjoy the game, nomich. I will be at tomorrow's Celtics game where temperatures are forecast for the 90s with high humidity. It will bring back the old days of the original not air conditioned Boston Garden when the Celtics melted down the Lakers. If Pat Riley is present, he will have flashbacks to game 2 in the 1984 finals when the Celtics beat his Lakers on a day when it hit 97 in Boston.

I still have a clip somewhere of Robert Parish sitting on the bench during the 1984 Lakers Celtics heat game (I think it was Game 4 or Game 5). Someone handed him a cup of water, he started to drink it, then just poured it down his front. Besides the heat, there was no air movement in that building. I don't know if I would have wanted to be there or not. Who knows what kind of shape the Bruins ice was in under the parquet. And I don't know how they kept the court from turning into a sweaty slip-n-slide.

I had literally just moved to the Boston area and hadn't really gotten my bearings yet so I didn't fully comprehend the massive significance of the sporting moment I had walked into. Throughout my neighborhood, everyone had the game on and no one had put in any window A/C units for the summer yet, so all the windows were open and you could hear the hollering rise and fall in synchronized fashion up and down the street as the game progressed. It was like an audible version of the wave.
