Sad to hear of the death of Pistons great Bob Lanier on Tuesday. He is remembered for being a gentleman and generous to a fault. On a lighter note he is remembered for his size 22 shoes. This commercial with Dave Cowens highlights that.

I forgot about that commercial. Thanks for digging it up, Ho_T

Some time back, I had an office visit with an orthopedic knee and shoulder specialist who was closely connected to the Celtics. On the windowsill in the exam room was a well made white basketball shoe with green trim. It was large.

I pointed to the shoe and said: "Who is that?"

The doctor said: "Kevin McHale".

I picked up the shoe and held it and for some reason said: "Probably not as big as Bob Lanier's".

The doctor said: "Not even close".
