Long time NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer has passed away at age 77. The ever gracious Washington Post has displayed all the class of an unflushed toilet by headlining his obituary "Marty Schottenheimer, NFL coach whose teams wilted in the postseason, dies at 77." De mortibus nisi nil bonum, WaPo.

Amen, Howard. A few days ago, I read that he had entered hospice.

I thought of Coach Schottenheimer during the Super Bowl, watching Tom Brady at 43 do for the Bucs what Joe Montana at 36 was unable to do for his Chiefs.

(Thanks to Howard and Philip Rivers, I'm learning a few new Latin phrases these days, sometimes the hard way.)

Actually, beaverboard, I got it wrong. I looked it up and found that the correct phrase is "de mortuis nil nisi bonum". I got a D in 9th grade Latin, mostly because the teacher had us doing art projects instead of declining verbs, and since my artistic talents were nil, I wouldn't do the projects.
