Marlins take game one.: "They didn't act intimidated. They didn't appear scared. Their knees didn't quiver, and they didn't shake in their cleats. They beat the Yankees, 3-2."
everyone knows the yankees have to lose game one so they can get motivated. No worries.

If you only read one baseball commentator the rest of the year, read this one.

The word is ''arrogant.'' Yankees fans believe their team should win the World Series every single year, because the Yankees have a Great Winning Tradition, defined as ''a really rich owner.'' Hee.

Regarding the end of last night's game ... does Pudge Rodriguez routinely kiss his pitchers in Florida? He and Ugueth Urbina appeared to exchange one of those Russian cheek-kissing things as they greeted each other after the last out. I can't recall him ever planting one on Kenny Rogers or one of the other Rangers pitchers.

Rcade, I noticed that too, and I thought it was kind of cute. There has been a fair amount made of the amount of affection baseball players have been showing each other in the playoffs. The Seattle P.I. last week ran an article detailing the Red Sox players penchant for hugging one another in the dugout after good plays. Clearly, all of these players are gay.

Vito, if that were true, and not just a joke, this otherwise 'uninteresting' WS would be one of the more important civil rights events in recent history.

There's no hugging in baseball! There's no kissing in baseball!

They aren't all gay and it's still otherwise uninteresting! :)

They aren't all gay and it's still otherwise uninteresting! :) Life is usually like that, in my experience.

tieguy, thanks for the Dave Barry link. BTW, anyone who has never read Dave Barry's classic column Sports Nuts definitely should. It's not that long, less than 1000 words. Should be available in a Dave Barry collection (but I don't see any online link to it).

Who cares about the kissing, as long as they win? Not I... Go Marlins!

Looks like the ratings are in for game one. Sixteen percent better than last year. Still the third lowest ever, though. Interestingly enough, the ratings were up in Chicago from last year, but down in Boston. I guess the wounds from game seven around here are just too deep and too fresh.

Chicago's also a two-team town. Maybe the White Sox fans are tuning in now because the Cubs lost the NLCS.

I hadn't watched the marlins very much this year, but there infield defense is amazing, and Pierre is great to watch. The yankees have lost both first games in the playoffs and come back to win the next. So game two should be interesting.
