Been there, done that. About 2 years ago, fast ball in the middle of the plate, called it a ball. There was no swing to compound the problem. After the 3rd out I turned around to the guys on the hill behind the backstop, shrugged my shoulders, and said something to the effect of just wanted to give them something to get on me about. It got a laugh, and we went on from there. This was in one of the smaller towns in southern NH that has a good baseball tradition,, and the coach there is one of the real gentlemen I see from year to year.

I think it's the swing AND the fact that the 1B umpire ALSO called it a no-swing that makes this so much worse than a simple missed pitch.
