(Web + Sports) * Beer = Über-good time.: Does the confluence of baseball playoffs, NFL games, the start of hockey season, and free-flowing, better-tasting Oktoberfest beer make this the most wonderful time of the sports year?

No doubt about it. If the Sox win, I will celebrate with beer. If not, I'll drown my sorrows with beer. Same with the Pats and the Bruins.

I moved the comments on the Red Sox-Yankees game to the thread about the game.

screw april, this is where it's at. I miss my summer weather but other than that, this is perfect. Except I am drinking far too many liquid calories. I never drink this much during the week...

At this time of year I have the football, rugby union, rugby league and the American football. The rugby world cup is just a bonus. There's also the rugby league Grand Final coming up. I couldn't give a monkeys about most of the sports kirkaracha mentioned though.

ok then, what is your best time of year if none of those sports are really your bag?

gspm: well this is...for the reasons I detailed above. Basically, football is so big in the UK that the summer feels like a vast sports-free wasteland. To me, anyway. And yes I know there's loads of sports going on, there's just no footy. Fat Buddha and squealy will know what I mean..

fair enough. midseason excitement with a rugby title push thrown in. I just thought you were saying what this time of year means to you personally rather than suggesting it was your fave time but for different reasons. isn't the footie season over in late May and started again in early August? the suffering!

More beer talk. Bell's Oberon. New Glarus Native Ale. Goose Island...something. And that's just a small swath of the Midwest.

Basically, yes. There's also college football. A close second is late March/early April, with the NCAA basketball tourney, baseball's Opening Day, and the Master's.
