Tony Romo is 80-53 with the Cowboys since he became the starting QB. In that same time, all other QBs with the Cowboys are 1-14.

The following teams currently not in first in their divisions still control their own destiny to win the division title:

New York Yankees: If the Yankees win every game from here on out to the end of the season, they win the AL East.

  • 7 games against Boston, but only 4 games back of them.
  • 4 games against Toronto, but only 2 games back of them.
  • 4 games against Baltimore, but only 2 games back of them.

Baltimore Orioles: If the Orioles win every game from here on out to the end of the season, they win the AL East.

  • 7 games against Boston, but only 2 games back of the them.
  • 3 games against Toronto, tied with them in the standings.

Toronto Blue Jays: If the Blue Jays win every game from here on out to the end of the season, they win the AL East.

  • 3 games against Boston, but only 2 games back of them.
  • 3 games against Baltimore, tied with them in the standings.

San Francisco Giants: If they Giants win every game from here on out to the end of the season, they win the NL West.

  • 6 games against Los Angeles, but only 3 games back of them.

The following teams currently not in first in their divisions still control their own destiny to force at least a "Game 163" to determine the division title:

Detroit Tigers: If the Tigers win every game from here on out to the end of the season, they will be (at worst) tied for the AL Central.

  • 7 games against Cleveland, but only 7 games back of them.

Tony Romo is 80-53 with the Cowboys since he became the starting QB. In that same time, all other QBs with the Cowboys are 1-14.

So what's his "wins above replacement" during this time?

80 wins out of 133 games is .602 win%
1 win out of 15 games is .067 win%

That's pretty much .535 win% difference, which means 8.6 wins per season.

In comparison:

Tom Brady is 172-51 in the 223 games he's started. That's a .771 win%.
The Patriots are 11-7 in the games he didn't start (in seasons where he was a starter). That's a .611 win%.

That's pretty much a .160 win% difference, which means 2.6 wins per season.

In summary:

Silly math tells me that Tony Romo is more than three times as valuable to the Cowboys as Tom Brady is to the Patriots.

This is why Romo could have been caught letting the air out of the Met Life blimp and Goodell wouldn't have docked him a minute of playing time.

Jerry Jones has got a tough nosed approach to valuation. The current percentage of Brady's money that is guaranteed is almost twice Romo's percentage.
