My wife works with autistic kids of kindregarten ad first grade age, and one of the things she and her colleagues try to do is to get the "typical" kids in the class working together with the autistic kids. While all of her students are categorized as "high functioning", being a part of a group seems to help with their eventual social development as they grow older. Travis Rudolph's gesture appears to be leading to some recognition that autistic kids are not "retarded", but might just be some of the best in your class.
