Just as the climax of the NBA Finals relegated the US Open to virtual anonymity, the Kevin Durant decision completely blew the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest off the July 4th news map.

The 70 dogs consumed by champ Joey Chestnut represents uncharted territory.

(And the new wiener record in turn overshadowed reaction to the release of the Huma Abedin deposition transcripts. Such is fate.)
