Snowmobiler Strikes Iditarod Team, Killing Dog: A snowmobile driver repeatedly attempted to harm two Iditarod sled teams on Saturday morning, leaving one dog dead and several injured, two teams claimed. "Someone tried to kill me with a snowmachine," musher Aliy Zirkle said after reaching a checkpoint. She described two incidents, and musher Jeff King another where his team was hit from behind, killing one dog and injuring two others. The driver fled, but later Arnold Demoski, 26, said that he struck the dog teams and was blackout drunk when it happened. "I feel really bad for what I did," he said.
I understand that Jeff King is from my current city of residence, Nashua, NH. The SOB claims he was driving the snowmobile while drunk? The guy would have to be really smoked to repeat the attacks on more than one team, and in one case circled back to attempt to hit the team and driver repeatedly. This is one case where I really hope that the law in Alaska provides some draconian punishment.

The last time I was in my hometown in Northern Michigan during snowmobile season, every bar in the area had snowmobiler specials. And these were specials that featured pitchers of beer, not just bottles. Snowmobiling is big money, especially for the bars.
It's the same in Northern Wisconsin. I've always been surprised there aren't more incidents as there are a lot of blind corners and trails where you can barely fit two sleds side by side.
