BoSox vs Yankees: Are you ready for some baseball?

jerseygirl, what do you think will happen this weekend?

Does this interest anyone not in the northeast? I'm more jazzed about the Detroit/White Sox series. I hope the tiger's don't screw this season up and start winning.

If you have any interest in baseball you at least have to keep your left eye on the Sox/Yanks series. Especially Mariner fans who are Yankee fans this weekend. Sorry jerseygirl, but my M's are playing so piss-poor that my favorite teams are whoever is playing the BoSox and whoever is playing the A's.

How about the Cubs-Cards five games series over four days, starting on Labor Day? It's a great rivalry as well, and the teams are closer in the standings than are the Sox/Yankees. The Cards just took 2 out of 3 from the Cubs - thanks entirely to the Cubs bullpen. There are now 8 teams within 1.5 games of the NL wildcard.

Go Expos. Too bad they get into the NL wildcard lead only to leave Montreal and spend their next "home" stand in San Juan. I mean reports suggest they drew over 80k fans for their 4 game sweep of the Phillies. I gotta feel for those fans finally having something to get excited about after getting screwed over by the 94 strike and then their various owners and now being dicked around on being moved out of the city. Hopefully they will still be in the thick of the race when the team makes it back to Montreal. And then hopefully they make the playoffs. Though for a casual fan like myself it is just interesting to watch the race being so close.

Sorry for the regionalism...I agree that all of these division/wildcard races are good.

It's a great weekend for baseball no matter where you are! :) Boston needs to take advantage of the homefield advantage this weekend. I'm confident in our starters this weekend -- Lowe vs Contreras, Pedro vs Mussina, Wake vs Clemens. If Boston's big bats make an appearance this weekend, I think we should be able to take 2. We need to take 3, but I'll settle for 2.

I had given up on the Red Sox for dead two weeks ago--a typical August swoon, but here they are again, right back in the thick of things. It will make for some great drama and is the series to watch this weekend in my opinion (and I'm in the Southeast where the local team could possibly field it's AAA team the rest of the way and still win their division).

Even though I'm an AL fan, I'm more interested in the rugby scrum that is the NL Wild Card. 5 teams are tied. 2 other teams are within 2 games of them. I'm just hoping it comes down to the last weekend of the season and we end up having 4 more games of "playoffs" before deciding who gets into the "playoffs". I'm cheering for the following teams to make the playoffs: AL New York Yankees (because they are the best team in the AL) Boston Red Sox (because I'd love a NY/Bos AL championship series) Oakland A's (small budget team vs the big boys) Chicago White Sox (see Cubs) NL Atlanta Braves (because they are the best team in the NL) Montreal Expos (fuck you Bud Selig!) Chicago Cubs (two Chicago teams AND the Red Sox in the playoffs? Historical!) San Francisco Giants (Barry Bonds) I'd watch every single playoff game if all these teams made it to the big show.

Actually Grum, I agree with all your choices except for the White Sox. I'm pulling for the Royals (see your description of A's).

You could make the same argument for the Twins - and it's even better because Bud and Carl Pohlad wanted to contract the Twins.

Oh - by the way...the 11-4-1 Diablos (# 2 seed) start the playoffs on Sep. 7. We'll be playing either the Lumber Kings or the Zephyrs.

Vito, are you actually playing? Is there a fantasy league where I can choose you?

Jerseygirl, good luck to your Sox this weekend. I don't think they will overtake the Yanks, but hopefully it will be interesting.

Why is it that whenever the Yankees jump out they turn around and suck? There is far too much wrong with this team. I'm constantly angry, yet they're still the best in the AL. I guess I'm just as perfection-hungry as Big Stein. :) If only I had his money... What is up with Damon and his mullet? Contreras does not look like the same pitcher... well, he looks like the same pitcher who got smoked in Fenway a few months ago...

That's not a Mullet. That's his Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer 'do. How I miss Phil Hartman

After tonight's game, I'm feeling pretty confident, cg1001a. Tomorrow's match, no matter the outcome, will be a doozy. Looking forward to Pedro and Mussina. I hope Pedro is still pissed about the media, he always pitches well when he's mad. Not looking forward to the Fox announcers, unless RemDawg is joining them.

Looking forward to Pedro and Mussina. Petitte.

posted by jerseygirl at 10:42 PM on August 29, 2003

Pettitte started slow but returned to form, he has been the team's best pitcher since about June. Quite surprised to see Pedro leave after 4, but Arroyo did a fine job. Seems Nelson is coming in for the bottom of the 8th, then possibly Rivera. Still holding my breath here... Nelson usually lets the inherited runners score, so maybe if he doesn't inherit any, he won't give up any :) I haven't trusted Rivera in 2 years and lately he's been showing why. Woohoo, an insurance run. Enrique Wilson loves hitting against the Sox.

wow. an unexpected nice moment at Fenway as Roger leaves the game (and the Red Sox are losing). I guess Boston can be nice to Rogggggger.
