Terry Frei goes off!!!: Are his comparisons to basketball and football accurate? I got a warm and fuzzy feeling as I read, sas though the words cleansed away the months of lebron mania. ('Melo is the real story, anyway)
I think at the heart of this there is also a white/black issue. There is no coincidence that basketball and football are the subject of the hypocrisy - and where the bulk of athletes are mined from - compared to lilly white hockey and college baseball. Whether its through people assuming that black kids are less able to handle the 'pressure' of professionalism, or through some other racial tangent there is definitely a double standard. It also helps that both the college world series and the NCAA hockey championship aren't nearly the money earners that the techno-velveeta-preparationH-Nokia-34thplace-fiesta bowls are, or March Madness. I have a serious probem with college athletics. I think the American system is flat out wrong. I also think Garfield is flat out wrong. All the time. Even though he's probably right about Melo. But James is for real. Just probably not immediately. Actually it would be very interesting to see a spectacular fall from grace - sudden and violent. Can you tell I'm not too busy today?

Garfield, you either have to start using a spellchecker or start drinking more so you have an excuse, buddy.

Weedy, glad you bit on that one. Remains, to be seen, but I've been eyeing a 'Melo Yellow shirt I saw in the mall. And, sammy, on second thought, that 'drinking more' idea of yours has a nice ring to it. I think I'll set right to work on that this evening.

oh yeah, I think there could be something to that systemic racism argument of yours.

I agree with the idea that what's OK for hockey and baseball should be acceptable in football and basketball. Whether that's letting the young-uns in or keeping them out.
