No surprise, he loved the camera and the camera loved him. As the author points out, this picture is a rarity in that it shows him without self awareness or artifice.

Number 20 is the classic one I'll always remember.
There's a scene in When We Were Kings when Ali is training on a road somewhere in Zaire, and he comes over to the camera and starts talking while still exercising.
His charisma just about leaps through the screen and grabs you by the throat.

Remember those times well, watched that first Ali-Frazier fight when closed circuit first came out, watched it live at a drive-in. Still say Ali won. Ali took boxing to a whole new world wide level. Howard Cosell helped make Ali a household name and Ali helped make Howard Cosell a household name, heavyweight boxing went downhill when promoters got greedy when they started making numerous titles and stripping fighters of titles because they wouldn't fight their fighters when they wanted them too. Those were the glory years of heavyweight fighters.

Tried to edit a couple grammar errors but the ads on the page cover up part of the text, not bad anyway when I could only see half of what I was typing.

I can't think of too many other athletes that have been so well photographed so often in their careers.
