“I would be all over him, trying to deny him the ball, and all Larry was doing was yelling at his teammates, I’m open! Hurry up before they notice nobody is guarding me!” then he would stick an elbow in my jaw and stick the jumper in my face, then he would start in on my coach “Coach you better get this guy out and send in somebody who’s going to D me up, because its too easy when I’m wide open like this”
Thanks for that, yerfatma. Celtics open practice for season ticket holders is one week from today. My blood is starting to run green. Rondo's out until mid-November with a broken hand, the team will be run by Paul Pressey and Marcus Smart, Sullinger and Olynyik are the only notables left over from last season, and another lottery finish looks probable. It doesn't matter. When you have been following the Celtics for as long as I have, there's always enthusiasm and pride.

Loved it when McHale broke Bird's team scoring record with a 56 point night and Bird said he should have gone for 60. Then Bird goes out and scores 60 himself a few nights later.
In a small New Orleans college gym no less. Love those huge games in obscure facilities. At least there was footage of Bird's accomplishment, unlike Wilt's 100 in Hershey, PA.
Also, Kevin Gamble loved the rims at the old Garden and said that he hoped that they would be brought over to the new building. Because they were apparently forgiving. Bird said something to the effect of that if your shot was hitting the net, it wouldn't matter how helpful the rims were.

OMG, Kevin Gamble, I forgot about him and what a sweet shot he had. The tail end of the halfway decent Celtics.
