Goodbye to You!: So long Joe Kerrigan, and thanks for all the memories. We'll always have that late-season swoon in 2001 to remember each other by. I understand axing Duquette, and I know some star players (Pedro, Manny, raise your hands) didn't like Joe, but is this a good way to start an era? Grady Little/ Ken Macha, all your wishes came true. Sorry.

I think this is their year.

*sigh*. You know who would be a great manager for this team? Jimy Williams. Now if only they can find a way to convince the Astros to part with him... Seriously, they might be able to get Jim Fregosi or Felipe Alou, since the ownership issues have been sorted out; Alou might have come last year to replace Williams, but apparently cited the upheaval in Boston at the time as a deciding factor.

Jim Fregosi? Ewww. What's the matter, Terry Francona unavailable? Firing him because he lacks managerial experience makes me think they'll try to get Showalter. Maybe they know the proper incantations to raise Tom Kelly from his crypt. Managers aren't worth a bucket of warm spit, btw.

I didn't say I'd want Jim Fregosi as manager, only that that might be who they pursue. It wasn't well worded on my part; me, I want Jimy Williams back. Actually, Bill Simmons had an excellent idea (natch): hire Showalter just so you can fire him; the following year the Red Sox will win the world series. Yay!

Kerrigan is gone and there's no doubt that he got a major raw deal....as most of the writers at the Boston Globe have pointed out.
With a new manager the Red Sox will hopefully be able to make a fresh start and put last year behind them.
Unfortunately, Kerrigan most likely will not.

Just want to point out that 86 (top comment) is a Mets fan. Guess how he got his handle? If he thinks it could happen, maybe it could. Personal note: I roomed with him in college, and while hates Boston and he's definitely an idiot of sorts, he knows his sports. Like an idiot savant sort of thing.

I love the Red Sox, much like someone might love a sweet-tempered, crippled goat, but they will not win the World Series this year. It wouldn't be called a curse if you could break it with the lightning bat of Quilvio Veras and the cannon arm of Dustin Hermanson.

Just want to point out that my tongue was firmly planted in cheek when I posted here first. Samsonov, you should know better, little buddy.
