Marion Batoli Wins First Wimbledon Title: In a match of unlikely low seeds, No. 15 Marion Bartoli of France defeated No. 23 Sabine Lasicki of Germany 6-1, 6-4 for her first Wimbledon ladies singles championship. The 28-year-old Bartoli, who lost to Venus Williams in the 2007 final, kept her 23-year-old opponent under constant pressure and fighting nerves, breaking her serve three times in the first set. "I felt overwhelmed," Lisicki admitted in the on-court interview following the match.
I was rooting for Lisicki because of her previous matches in the tournament, but Bartoli is a worthy, completely unexpected champ.
Lots of people on Twitter and the media competing to be the biggest sexist pig, sadly.

I made the mistake of reading comments, both in places like SI and on tennis forums. Very depressing.
Bartoli herself, though, is refreshing in her unique qualities. I hope she wins another Slam event.

Seen a lot of stuff about her being ugly, not a looker etc... I'd never seen her so went and looked her up.
Sure she's not the most beautiful tennis player ever, but she's on a par with Steffi Graf and nobody ever said shit like that about her.
And who gives a shit anyway, she's a professional tennis player.
Once again gender bullshit. Doubt anyone tweeted about Murray not being much of a looker.

This has been going on for a bit. Some of the stuff that was said about Arantxa and a few others was beyond appalling.
Also, a good percentage of the chit chat I've encountered over the years has come from women.
There would be somebody complaining if all the players were Hantuchovas.
There would also be someone complaining if baseline grunting was banned.
It's not much of a leap to go from nasty gallery gossip to the on-air Ben Wright boobs and lesbians saga on the women's pro golf tour.

Could have saved bringing Ben Wright into it if I had found this first.

There's been some truly vile shit posted on Twitter after she won. Won't even repeat it, but it's absolutely fucking shameful.
