Tulane Safety Devon Walker Breaks Neck: Tulane safety Devon Walker suffered a broken neck and collapsed lung Saturday from a helmet-to-helmet collision with a teammate right before halftime against Tulsa. Walker stopped breathing when emergency medical workers removed his jersey and shoulder pads, Fox reported. He was revived and a tracheotomy was performed before he was taken to a hospital.

Arkansas' Tevin Mitchel also. Helmet-to-helmet with a teammate.

Horrifying hit. Screw his football career; praying for recovery of his health at this point.

Followup news reports indicated he never had a collapsed lung or a tracheotomy on the field. The team doctor is disputing the reports about the lung and tracheotomy.
Hope he recovers fully, but it's too early to know yet. Scary, scary stuff.

Apparently he remained conscious and alert during on-field treatment and was breathing without assistance throughout. He's in stable condition, may be paralyzed but maybe not, so here's hoping for a good outcome.
(He sounds like one intriguing guy...majoring in cell and molecular biology? Hardly your stereotypical jock)

Pfft. Sounds like a slacker course to me.
Oh. Wait. He's a football player, not a mathlete?
My bad.
(Here's hoping he recovers well enough to finish his degree.)

Lucky for him that Tulane isn't in a BCS conference, or he'd already have had his scholarship revoked.
