Terrible game by Ireland. Contrary to the announcers, I think that third goal stays out without Givens' head.

Chris Perez celebrated his 20th save by vomiting on the mound.

What a weird game today between Italy and Spain. The Italians started with the now rarely seen, (outside of Wigan), 3-5-2 and Spain started with a 4-6... yes, no forwards at all.

As none of the Spanish midfielders really like to stay wide they ended up with six players often standing on each other's toes.

A peculiar sort of a dance.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Adam Dunn is having one hell of an interesting year.

In 263 plate appearances, 164 of them have ended in one of the Three True Outcomes, a home run (20), a walk (48), or a strikeout (96).

He's currently on pace to finish with:

54 HR
130 walks
260 strikeouts

He's currently sitting on a 62.4% TTO.

The record (for those that qualify for a batting title) is held by Jack Cust (58.2% in 2007).

I've heard that Fernando Torres went through a bit of a slump at the start of the year.

Watching him in today's game, it sure did look like a player who had absolutely no idea what to do when a scoring chance appeared.

The play where the keeper simply ran up and stole the ball from him was embarrassing to watch.

He still makes all the right runs - the mechanical part of the game is there - but the instinctive part has gone. That's a terrible combination because he keeps getting into the right place and then overthinking what he's going to do.

I didn't see that Torres run, but Mario Balotelli had the strangest open charge at a goal I've seen in a while.

Balotelli and Torres should both take Bosmans to FC LostInTheClouds, Premier League, Italy and Spain would be better all around.

I think the Spain formation was strange too, but the players seemed to get it in form at about the hour mark. Put on Negredo or Pedro instead of Torres and Spain probably get a second goal.

[crazy conspiracy]
Balotelli was being paid by gamblers to throw the game.
His coach figured it out from that specific play, and pulled him from the game just minutes later.
As a result, Balotelli will not see the pitch again this tournament.

No one with half a mind (or better) would enter into a contract with Mario.
