Move ova, Kournikova. Hello, Sharapova!: Sixteen-year-old wild-card entry Maria "Shrieker" Sharapova defeated 11th seed Jelena Dokic in straight sets in the third round of Wimbledon today. Maria has the long legs and model looks to compete with compatriot Kournikova, but looks like she may actually have something better: championship skills.

I remember that when Anna hit the scene, everyone thought she had championship talent too. Hell, she even made the semis at Wimbledon one year. She just chose a different path to success, I guess. Another pretty face? Sure. Another championship-calibre player? One upset is not going to give us the answer to that.

Considering Kournikova has won zilch professionally, her record shouldn't be hard to top.

she's my new favorite, ahem, athlete.

What's with you guys? She's 16 years old, ferchrissakes! Show just a little, teensy bit of dignity, okay?

billy, don't force your puritanism on me. In Europe its just fine to think about a 16 year old, as it is in most corners of the world.

Garfield, you live in Jersey! As we used to say when I was growing up there, 16'll get you 20.

I know, but I'm somewhat of a progressive thinker. Besides, 16 is about the average age girls give up the boots(a sweeping broad generalization, i know)....and she is definitely above average, so i'm guessing she appreciates the, ahem, attention. She is just pixels on my screen and glorious soundbites to my ears. Aside: Her moans/shrieks/'i don't know what you call it, but keep doing it' were featured on Howard Stern last week. He's also now a fan.

Garfield, your comments here add some depth to our earlier conversation about Sharapova . . . And since you like definitions so much, I wonder what you mean by "progressive thinker."

My opinion in this regard, garfield, is based on having a best friend (47 years old!) who continually lusts after teenagers. Plus, Sharparova may be putting herself out on display but this butts up against my complete distaste for child pr0n and similar activities.

I do like definitions. Thanks for noticing. I didn't know you cared. Here's an example of what I mean by 'progressive thinker': Have you ever sat down with an elderly person and had them blow you away by something they say? Something that runs contrary to conventional wisdom of their time and the present. Something that upon further investigation seems a no-brainer, but has eluded the majority of the population? I'm not old yet and definitely need to work on the wise thing, so maybe my self-characterization is over the top in the above-described sense of the word. To be technical, we are all progressive thinkers. Axiom A.) cogito ergo sum. Axiom B.) progressive defined as 'moving forward or onward.' As the only dimension of thought is time(according to some pretty famous folks), and time being linear/successive, I would venture to say that to think is to move onward. Billy, sorry for jumping down your throat this morning. I completely respect where you are coming from. Kiddie pron is one of the vilest creations of our supposedly civil and advanced society. I just think she's cute and have a weakness for aural stymuli.
